Staff Environmental Scientist
Laura comes to WRA from Manatee County’s Building and Development Services where she served as an Environmental Planner II. While with Manatee County she reviewed Preliminary, Final, and Construction Site Plans to ensure the Manatee County Land Development Code (MCLDC) was being met environmentally, she also permitted docks and boardwalks, and served on several committees. Prior to her work with the county, Laura was with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) at the Florida Fish and Wildlife Research Institute (FWRI) where she managed Florida’s natural resources for 15 years. Specifically, she worked in Fisheries Management and served as the Invertebrate Collection Manager of the Florida Biodiversity Natural History Collection.
Laura obtained a B.S. & M.S. in Environmental Science and Policy from the University of South Florida (USF). Her thesis work assisted the Southwest Florida Water Management District (SWFWMD) in setting minimum flows and levels for rivers and streams under their jurisdiction by creating a Physical Habitat Simulation (PHABSIM) using the spotted sunfish (Lepomis punctatus) as an indicator species. Laura will be managing environmental aspects for WRA projects from Manatee south to Collier Counties and assisting
with other projects as needed.
